WG1 - Alternative Electronics from a global point of view

Work Plan of the Working Group on Alternative Electronics from a global point of view:
The 3 targets outlined in the “nano-scale ICT devices and systems” call i.e. demonstration of new concepts for 1) switches or memory cells 2) interconnects and 3) radically new functionalities must be continuously revisited according to research developments and research needs identified by organizations such as ENIAC, ITRS, SRC and others.

Namely, 3 main topics with the following items will be considered with the aim to provide a global perspective on key research issues that need to be addressed for the future nanoelectronics :

1- Fabrication (large scale) and characterization of very large number of nanodevices (topic 1) with emphasis on “system-ability”
2- Devices interconnect and architectures (topic 2) with emphasis on thermal management and choice of states variables for devices and their intercommunication.
3- New functionalities, new architectures and new computation paradigms enabled by incorporating nano-objects (topic 3)
